Encapsulate your asbestos rather than remove it. Save potentially thousands of pounds on asbestos removal costs by simply encapsulating instead. Encapsulation should still be completed by a competent company for health and safety reasons, its is still asbestos after all.
Powell Padilla have a team of fully trained and insured asbestos removal operatives that can encapsulate and repair damaged asbestos materials at far less cost than total removal. Of course if asbestos is highly damaged or in a high risk area there may be no choice but to remove it.
Encapsulation is often the best way forward. If Powell Padilla are instructed to complete an asbestos management survey of your premises our surveyor will discuss your options on site if asbestos is discovered. In the majority of cases asbestos encapsulation is the best option.
What does asbestos encapsulation involve?
In most cases any debris from damaged areas is first cleared away with specialist vacuum cleaners. Once clean asbestos materials such as asbestos insulation board can first be painted with barrier paint to seal the material and prevent any materials from escaping. To limit fibre release while encapsulating asbestos paint is often sprayed onto the material.
Note: Specialist paint should be used for this work.
Once sealed with appropriate pain, labels can be applied to the dry paint. If the material is in a high risk area additional encapsulation may be required. For example you have asbestos insulation board cladding to columns in a warehouse environment. In this case to protect the material from impacts additional encasing would be required. A timber case could be constructed around the columns up to the working height of machinery such as fork lift trucks. This would ensure that the material will not suffer further damage and potential fibre release.
